FAQ
Common Questions about Squidtop:
If you have a question that is not addressed here, feel free to leave it in the comments and we will add it as soon as possible.
How do I post to my Squid Top Blog?
Easy! If you are logged in, simply fill out the box that appears above your entries. If you would like to enter a longer, more detailed post, simply click on the ‘Admin’ link under the ‘Meta’ menu items on the right sidebar of your blog. That will bring you to the admin area of your blog and you can write longer posts there as well as change settings to customize your blog.
I see Adsense ads on the pages, how does that work?
The Adsense program is set up to give 80% of the impressions to you, the blog owner, the other 20% goes to SquidTop to help pay for bandwidth, hosting, and all of that other fun stuff.
To input your Adsense information, simply log in to your admin area and click on the ‘Options’ menu item. There you will see the option to insert your Google Publisher ID as well as your channel tracking ID (Ad_Slot). This allows you to customize the ads on your site!
The numbers for your adsense account can be found in your adsense code at the following places:
google_ad_client = (Note: Do not include the ‘pub-’ in the options page, only include the number)
google_ad_slot = (Again, just put the number in, no quotes)
What other Services do you Support?
Currently, you can add your Twitter updates to your Squidtop by adding the URL of your Twitter RSS feed on your Options Page in the Admin are.
We are planning on adding more cool third party integration soon, if you have an idea for something you’d like to see, let us know !
How do I get those little pictures by my post?
The Pictures or Avatars next to different authors are powered by http://www.gravatar.com . Visit them and sign up with the same e-mail address that you used to start your SquidTop, upload your avatar, and you are ready to go! Your avatar will also display on many other sites across the web that also support Gravatars.

Who do I contact to let them know that I did not receive my confirmation e-mail?
lewister6232 4:34 pm on May 11, 2008 | #
From reading the About, it looks like we can have more than one top. True?
clouda9 10:12 pm on May 12, 2008 | #
Where does a Page I created show up?
Captain Squid 10:39 pm on May 12, 2008 | #
Lewister - Yes, you can have as many tops as you like. However, we obviously reserve the right to lock spammy tops if and when they show up..
clouda, pages are published but are not currently linked to from your squidtop unless you post a link to the page. I’m planning on hardcoding pages into the template this week hopefully.

What exactly is a trackback and what URL would you put in for a blog post?
Victoria Neely 9:54 pm on May 20, 2008 | #
I set my avatar on Gravatar several hours ago, and cleared my cache, but I still don’t see it. Is it common for avatars to not show up until a day later or so?
Victoria Neely 9:54 pm on May 20, 2008 | #
Never mind, it just popped up all of a sudden. Hee!!

I’ve included a post about using the SquidTop Widgets.

Gravatar doesn’t want to accept my password… mmm, odd. Anyone else have problems setting it up?
victorianeely 4:14 pm on May 27, 2008 | #
Daoine: Yes, I’ve been having problems with Gravatar myself. I forget exactly what I did to fix it, although changing my password here to match the one I have at Gravatar seemed to help.
I still have some problems. Oddly enough, while my avatar shows up on my blog and on comments, it doesn’t show up on the SquidTop homepage next to my new posts. :/
victorianeely 4:33 pm on May 27, 2008 | #
Ah, THAT did it… for some reason, my email address was in all CAPS under “Options” as well as “Users -> Your Profile.” Changing it to lowercase seemed to fix whatever was preventing my avatar from showing up on the SquidTop main page.

Glad you all got it working. I’ve installed a new widget for an author about box and some other things. Check it out sometime!
daoine 12:55 am on May 28, 2008 | #
Thanks Victoria, I’ll try that.

I have a short bio in the bio section of my profile. That doesn’t seem to show up on my blog, though. It just shows the default text. Any ideas how to fix this?

Help please. I have signed up here twice and did not receive an account activation email.
stumbleupon for lensmasters 10:47 am on June 6, 2008 | #
How do I login than? I’m probably missing something, but I can’t see the place where you sign up.
Zach 2:29 pm on June 6, 2008 | #
mosiac, sorry about that. We’re working on getting that resolved.
Marlene - did you check your spam box? Sometimes the activation emails end up in there. If it’s not, let me know and we’ll get you hooked up with an account. Sorry about that.
stumbleupon for lensmasters, you click the ‘Sign Up’ banner in the top right of the site.

Raises hand, me next I have a question
How in the heck do you make it so links in your blog open in a new window…want them to stay awhile, not get lost in Squidooland. I have tried the standard target=”_blank”, that does not work. Anyone? Thanks.
Captain Squid 7:50 am on June 10, 2008 | #
I’ll take this one
. If you go into your admin area (Click Site Admin on Your Squidtop) and write a post from there, the WYSIWG editor allows you to highlight text and turn it into a link using the classick ‘chain’ button. A little dialogue box pops up asking you if you want to open it in a new window or not.
Can you point to where it didn’t work so we can check the code?
Thanks,
Cap

I updated this blog (http://oncloud9.squidtop.com/2008/06/09/fan-club-badmsm) per your info above and links are still opening on the same page. Hmm??
daoine 12:45 am on July 4, 2008 | #
Grrr! This is so frustrating. Gravatar is picking up that I have this account at Squidtop, but it refuses to recognise my password and allow me to log in!
